Viva la Libertà (Long Live Freedom) FilM

The Italian Cultural Institute will be showing Roberto Andò’s Long Live Freedom (Viva La Libertà) on Sunday, February 22 at the University of Louisville’s Chao Auditorium. The film lasts one hour and thirty four minutes and begins at 4:00 PM.  It will be in Italian, with English subtitles.

The film Viva La Libertà (Long Live Freedom) turns an unlikely  notion about how to solve a problem in political leadership into a warm, witty comedy. A dour, exhausted  President is in trouble with his supporters and the media. But when he decides to disappear, his managers decide to put in his brother, a duplicate in looks, but temperamentally his joyous opposite. Next comes a parade of moving and hilarious episodes. Whatever about the plot, the casting is successful throughout. Particularly memorable are Toni Servillo, who plays “both” Presidents, and Veleria Bruni, who plays the troubled President’s former girlfriend. This movie is the charming story we dream of when we hear or look at the news.
