The purpose of the Italian Cultural Institute is to bring together italophiles and those who wish to learn more about Italy and its rich cultural heritage. We interpret the word ‘culture’ in the broadest sense to encompass the fine arts, literature, music, film, design and manufacturing, food and wine, and daily life in a contemporary context. Our emphasis is on activities which can be enjoyed by all, but which always have an educational focus. We invite you to join us in exploring and enjoying with us both the old and the new in the Italian cultural and social landscape.

We offer language instruction for those wishing to acquire a basic understanding and competence in Italian. Classes are led by Dr. Marina Karem and Clara Luchini Maddox. Free to members (the purchase of text books may be required).

Converse in Italian and refine your language skills at our monthly, informal gatherings. Meetings take place the third Thursday of each month, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at the home of Judy Robbins (occasionally we meet at the house of another member).

Join our book club, and explore masterpieces of Italian literature, from scholarly to popular, with professor Tom Van. The discussion group generally meets at the home of Dr. Van.

The Institute has held various individual lectures and lecture series. Past and scheduled speakers include Dr. John Hale, archeologist; Thomson Smillie, former director of the Kentucky Opera; and Dr. Dario Covi, art historian.

The Institute sponsors an assortment of other programs and events for its members, and endeavors to promote an appreciation for Italian culture throughout the community.
